An Unusual Method for cleaning your Iowa RV’s Headlights

Before heading off on any road trip excursion, there are certain RV components that people most commonly remember to check. Things like the state of your tires, oil condition, and any other major maintenance aspects are given a once over before hitting the pavement. However, one thing that may have been overlooked but is still a critical part of safe driving is the condition of your headlights.

If you are driving along at night and happen to notice the fact that your visibility is not what it should be, you may not need to call your eye doctor just yet – it could simply mean that your headlights are in need of some attention. Taking a closer look at them, and you may even notice there is a slight yellow discoloration on the surface of your headlight covers.

Before you reach into your wallet and spend money having them replaced, why not try this unconventional method of cleaning them that only requires you reaching into your bathroom drawer.  The following steps for cleaning your headlights, provided by wikiHow, show you how using your run of the mill toothpaste can do wonders for your driving visibility.

Step 1 – Get your most generic, run of the mill, white toothpaste. Notice the keyword paste and not your gel kind of toothpaste. Whitening toothpastes or those with mint have extra compounds that could actually damage your headlights.
Step 2 – Apply toothpaste with a dry soft cloth. Rub in circular motions through small areas until you notice the grime starts to easily wipe away and come off.
Step 3 – Rinse the toothpaste off of the headlight covers with water, and wipe away any residual paste with a damp cloth.
Step 4 – For a final finishing touch, apply a polish or wax to achieve an even shinier look and help delay the oxidation process.
