Black Tank Tips

At our Iowa RV dealership, we know that there are certain components of our RVs that need specialized care in order to maintain their functions properly. Unfortunately, our RV’s black water tank, which holds our toilet waste, is one of these components. In order to ease your troubles, The Fun Times Guide has provided the following tips on maintaining your black water tank in order to ensure correct functionality.

Tips for your Black Water Tank:

1.      NEVER leave the valve for the black water open when you are hooked up to a sewer connection at a campsite.  Doing this allows the water in the tank to drain out, leaving the solid waste behind to accumulate. After only a small amount of time, the waste will become stuck inside the tank giving yourself a difficult time emptying it out.
2.      Be sure to use the approved chemicals specific for your black water tank in order to control odor and help break down toilet paper and other products flushed. It is recommended to even purchase specially fabricated toilet paper for RV toilets that break down easily making dumping less problematic.
3.      Don’t rely solely on the black tank monitor that tells you whether it is full or empty. These have a tendency to not work properly as pieces of toilet paper or other factors can indicate that it is full when it is actually not.
4.      Depending on the duration of your RV trip and the amount of passengers on board determining toilet usage, it is wise to make yourself a clean out schedule as to not fall behind on cleaning it out and dumping.
