Maintain Your RV Wiper Blades

In order to ensure your safety while driving your Webster City RV in rainy conditions, you should be sure to maintain your wiper blades and make sure they are working properly. Visibility is fundamental to safe driving. The following tips for maintaining your wiper blades, provided by Rain-X, are easy and important to do before taking your next road trip adventure.

In order to avoid problems while out on the road in your RV and extend your wiper blades’ lives, take note of the following steps:
1.      If your windshield becomes covered in ice, avoid using your wipers to scrape it away. Instead, use an ice scraper or defrost your windows before using the wipers to clear away any water or slush.
2.      During the winter months when you aren’t using your RV, pull the wiper blades away from the windshield to prevent them from sticking and getting ice build up on them.
3.      Keep your wiper blades clean and try to remember to wipe them down each time you visit a filling station. Cleaning them simply requires wiping them with a damp towel to remove any dirt or oil residue.
4.      You should replace your wiper blades every year or as soon as you notice that they make a squeaking sound, skip, smear or streak when in use.

You should also inspect your wiper blades before any RV trip. When doing so, remember to look for the following:
1.      Metal Corrosion at the blades’ joints or claws.
2.      A broken frame or detachment at any of the blades’ joints or connections.
3.      Visible cracks, tears, or missing pieces in the rubber squeegee part on the edge.
4.      Check the squeegee for flexibility by bending it back and forth. If it has difficulty flexing, it may be time to be replaced.
5.      Check the squeegee’s wiping edge for any rounded or contoured edges as they can prevent the blade from making contact with the windshield.
