Minneopa State Park
Minneopa State Park
Now that fall has set in, you may not want to take your Webster City RV too far away. So instead, consider going just three hours north to Minneopa State Park. With its name referring to waterfalls, “water falling twice,” geocaching, and hikes – this is the place to be!
Trails
Whether it’s summer or winter, there are plenty of scenic ways to get exercise! In the summer, the most popular trails are for hiking! There are over 4.5 miles worth of adventurous treks to set out on. Tired of walking? There is also a paved portion for biking. In the winter, a whole new type of fun opens up across the land. As the air gets colder and the snow begins to fall, cross-country skiing opens up! Having 4 miles worth of skiing is plenty to get excited about!
Programs
If you’re planning to go soon, make sure to catch the Interpretive Exhibit because it only is available May through September. This guide led program takes you through the area around the waterfalls and prompts you to dissect everything you see. Another must see is the Historic Site on Mill Road. The windmill is something you don’t see every day, which adds depth and wonder to the whole park. Bird watching is another fun activity at Minneopa. Before you leave you can print off a bird checklist from their site, or get one from the park office once you arrive. This detailed list has so many different birds that you will constantly be on the look out.
Harvest Festival
Another reason to avoid procrastination is the Harvest Festival! September 29th at 5pm starts this year’s celebration of the season. There will be fun for the whole family from wagon rides to hot chocolates. Who can resist a bonfire and marshmallows? This great time will give you and your family an up-close view of nature and the restoration of the park.
For an added bonus, there is always firewood available at the park office! Be sure to build a fire and let us know how your trip went in the comments below!
